Temporary Items

Temporary items allow for improved management of sundry items without unnecessarily cluttering the Inventory master file with a build-up of obsolete items.

From an inventory management perspective, core line items are segregated from the single purchases or seasonal lines. Once stock has been cleared, the item is automatically removed from the item file, reducing the need for manual file management and maintenance. This reduces the file size and improves selection of items during transaction processing for users.

The main benefits of temporary items are as follows:

• they can be created via the Inventory master file or quickly from within transaction processing
• they correctly record purchasing and sales information
• they remove the use of a generalised code for single purchases of different products

• once quantities become zero, the item is automatically removed from the Inventory master file when an End of Month is completed
• history is maintained on file for analysis and auditability
• they remove the need for manual maintenance of the Inventory master file.
